I’m not sure it’s futile. In my understanding, it is what each “layer” of this universe has done: reverse engineer itself in order to be itself fully. From what you wrote, it sounds like Buddhists wanted to transcend even that and just go back to the source. It’s allowed. What I mean is that ultimately, in this universe, you can do whatever you want! It’s just that you will go and experience precisely what you have chosen to be. So it all depends what you want. I want to keep improving this “illusion” of a reality by improving my limited understanding of it, and that will lead me in one direction. If you want to exit he reality and move on to something else, Buddhism may be a good way out.. :-)
