I share your vision. I think the main reason why alien civilizations will not be hostile is simply because of the very clever way in which evolution and the Universe functions. Looking at ourselves, the moment we acquired the technology to leave our planet, we simultaneously acquired the technology to destroy ourselves. Rocket technology and nuclear weapons appeared at nearly the same time. I believe this is a Universal principal: the acquisition of very advanced technology allowing your civilization to escape the gravity of your planet coincides with acquiring the technology which could end your civilization. Hence: there are only two choices.
- Your civilization learns to cooperate and behave like one global collective organism (you reach a state of peace and harmony on your planet) and thus can successfully leave your planet and go visit other areas of the Universe. In so doing, you will have become a highly peaceful race and one which understands such things as ecology, interdependence, balance, ecosystems (at micro and macro scales), etc.
2) Your civilization remains fixated in an “us against them” logic which will inevitably lead to a self destruction, as the more your technology to leave your planet advances, the more the “rogue” or discriminated elements on your planet will be able to get their hands on the same technology to take revenge or set off a chain reaction which will terminate your civilization.
I think whatever aliens are out there are governed by the “prime directive” and are waiting which of these two choices we will make, which will “seal” our fate as to whether we will make first contact or not. They are treating us like grown adults that have the right to commit suicide if they want to…
