Hmmm, well, let’s say that you can never “prove” that what my “model” or my picture of God is, is true. But I believe that there are criteria for identifying whether you are getting closer to the truth or not. One criteria is whether your “theory” answers most if not all existential questions. And in the case of what I believe, it provides many answers and rejects very little. It manages to reconcile religion, science and spirituality, so in that sense, it’s pretty efficient. However, and this is the crucial part, the “truth” is less relevant than your subjective need for finding meaning. What I mean by that is, I don’t believe in a “Universal” truth, simply because if that truth makes you miserable, then it is worthless. The “truth” I have stumbled upon provides me with a sense of comfort, relieves my fears of death, and enables me to live more peacefully and lovingly. In that sense, any other “truth” which enables a person to live in similar conditions is millions of times better than my explanation, even if it is less “correct” in an empirical sense. Who cares what our individual cells “believe”, so long as they act as they should to keep us alive! :-P
